Gender equality and discrimination in media will be discussed on a panel that will take place in the Hrant Dink Foundation on December 11.
The panel will be moderated by bianet's women and LGBTI news editor Çiçek Tahaoğlu and Yıldız Tar from Kaos Gay and Lesbian Cultural Research and Solidarity Association (KaosGL) and Pınar Büyüktaş from Association for Struggle Against Sexual Violence will talk about the works on media and journalism within the scope of gender equality.
The panel has been organized by the Hrant Dink Foundation's ASULIS Discourse, Dialogue, Democracy Laboratory and will start at 6.30 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2017.
Pınar Büyüktaş, the coordinator of the project "Transforming Our Language: Rights Based Journalism About Sexual Violence" carried out by the Association for Struggle Against Sexual Violence, will explain what kind of a change they want to render beginning with the language used by the media and then on community level.
Following Büyüktaş, KaosGL Media and Communications Coordinator Yıldız Tar will analyse the language used both in the mainstream media and alternative media in terms of the fundamental rights of LGBTIs. She will also share data from the associations' researches and Media Monitoring reports where they observe discriminatory discourse in media. (BK/DG)
