Deforestation continues in eastern and southeastern regions of Turkey for establishing new military bases and police stations.
According to Mesopotamia News Agency, trees being cut down in the Şenyayla region of Muş since the beginning of March despite the reactions coming from locals and also ecology activists.
Mesopotamia Ecology Movement consists of a group of volunteers fighting against deforestation and ecological destruction.
The group had issued a written statement on May 25 about the ongoing military operations in eastern and southeastern regions of Turkey and the cutting down of trees in the Şenyayla region.
The group stated that the reason for the deforestation is the war policies that Turkey has been conducting.
"Forcing people to leave their homelands, deforestation, and destruction of the habitats, these all are other aspects of the attacks against Kurdish people. These are the outcomes of the war policies that Turkey has been conducting in Kurdistan. As Mesopotamia Ecology Movement we are calling the authorities to stop cutting off the trees." (TY/TB/VK)
