Three million subscribers had electricity, natural gas turned off due to unpaid bills in 10 months

In the first 10 months of the last year, 2.53 million subscribers' electricity and 579,642 subscribers' natural gas was temporarily turned off because of unpaid bills, according to Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez.

In the same period, legal action was taken against 53,840 electricity subscribers and 123,657 natural gas subscribers for failing to pay bills, Dönmez said in a response to a parliamentary question by main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer.

As of the and of September, a total of 269,2 million electricity bills and 128,8 million natural gas bills had been issued, said the minister.

0.94 percent of electricity subscribers and 0.45 percent of natural gas subscribers had their services turned off due to unpaid bills.

There were 3.58 applications for new electricity subscriptions and 2.77 million applications for natural gas subscriptions, according to the ministry figures.

MP Gürer said the ministry shouldn't cut the services and take legal action against subscribers during the pandemic. (HA/VK)
