AsiKeçi (Rebel Goat) Ankara Arts Initiative has organized a series of arts events as a part of the PersonaNonGrata project, an interdisciplinary and international public art activity.
The activities that have started on October 15 will continue until October 20 in the historical town center in Ulus, Ankara.
Demolish order for the historical Anafartalar Çarşısı and Ulus İşhanı
The location of the activities, Anafartalar Çarşısı (Bazaar) and Ulus İşhanı (Ulus office block), are public structures with historical value that are currently subject to a demolition order by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.
Important art objects from the 1960's are also located in these structures.
"Unwanted people, unwanted lives, unwanted structures, unwanted arts..."
The project will bring together Ankara-based art lovers and artists from Ankara and İstanbul as well as the arts collective KURS from Belgrad, Serbia.
The participating artists have experienced the creative production process in different disciplines such as mural painting, installation, photography, video art and performance art.
Performed under the theme PersonaNonGrata, the art activities scrutinize different living practices of city dwellers caught between official and unofficial impositions amid the bureaucratic and political intensities of urban life.
Through reference to "unwanted people", "unwanted lives", "unwanted structures" and "unwanted arts", PersonaNonGrata addresses the intervention of societal power elites into daily life. (EKN/DG)
