The former Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu has been sentenced to pay 40,000 lira in compensation to Kılıçdaroğlu in the defamation case brought by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP) against him.
Soylu, on November 18, 2022, during budget discussions, had made derogatory remarks about Kılıçdaroğlu, who had accused him of "money laundering." Soylu had stated, "Anyone who launders black money or engages in drug trade is despicable. Kılıçdaroğlu, who doesn't prove anything, is also despicable. It's as simple as that. Anyone who doesn't prove anything is also despicable."
Kılıçdaroğlu's lawyer, Celal Çelik, filed a lawsuit in response to Soylu's statement.
In a tweet from his X (Twitter) account, Avukat Çelik said, "We said we would hold Süleyman Soylu accountable for his lack of decency! We kept our word. We have won the lawsuit we filed against Soylu for defamation on November 18, 2022. In today's final hearing of the case held at the 15th Civil Court of First Instance in Ankara, a compensation of 40,000 lira has been awarded in favor of our leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. We will continue to upset Soylu and the likes of him, and we will continue to hold them accountable..." (RT/PE)
