İstanbul governorship allocated 237 public schools in the city and the sports facilities in these schools to the Youth Foundation of Turkey (TÜGVA) between June 16 and July 28.
The decision followed the request coming from the foundation that includes Bilal Erdoğan, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's son, and other figures close to the government on its board.
İsmail Arı from Birgün daily newspaper reported that TÜGVA sent a letter to the İstanbul provincial directorate of national education on May 23 and requested the facilities in the framework of the cooperation protocol dated February 25, 2021, in the scope of the TÜGVA İstanbul Middle School Summer School project. The sixth of such summer schools was going to be organized this year according to the letter.
The İstanbul Governorship approved the request.
A total of 237 schools were included in the list attached to TÜGVA's letter. The districts where TÜGVA requested the highest number of schools were Bağcılar with 42 schools, Esenler with 25 schools, and Küçükçekmece with 12 schools.
The foundation has also asked for the conference rooms, classrooms, shop classrooms, and laboratories also to be made available. The schools will be asked to encourage the teachers, students, and parents for the participation of the students to the program.
The number of public schools to be allocated for the use of the summer program of TÜGVA in all districts of İstanbul is as follows:
