The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has launched an investigation into six TV channels, alleging violations of broadcasting principles and non-compliance with the broadcast bans.
According to regulations, voting concludes at 5 p.m., and the ban on broadcasting election results is lifted at 9 p.m. However, the Supreme Election Council (YSK) holds the authority to adjust the ban lifting time. In both the dual elections on May 14 and the presidential second round election on May 28, the ban was lifted around 6 p.m., as determined by the Council.
Additionally, the broadcasting of speeches containing propaganda has been prohibited from 6 p.m. on the day prior to the election. RTÜK did not specify the exact nature of the violations committed by these channels.
RTÜK claims that these channels engaged in "hurling insults and launching attacks that belittle the people" during their broadcasts.
In an official statement, RTÜK expressed the following: "On the evening of the election day, when the national will is manifested, the remarks made by Çiğdem Toker, one of the FOX TV hosts, stating that 'Democracy is not solely confined to the ballot box,' along with the entire broadcast, have been documented by our experts. Once the report is finalized, the file will be deliberated and a decision will be reached during the initial Supreme Council meeting.
"Moreover, investigations are being carried out in response to the substantial complaints received from viewers regarding HALK TV, TELE 1, KRT, TV 5, FLASH HABER, and SZC TV, which allegedly featured speeches that insulted and attacked our esteemed nation. Respectfully announced to the public." (HA/VK)
