Two individuals on a motorcycle fired shots at an office of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP)'s in Gaziosmanpaşa, İstanbul last night.
The authorities are currently investigating the incident unfolded in the Bağlarbaşı neighborhood, the Gaziosmanpaşa District Governor's Office said in a statement today.
The authorities swiftly responded to the scene after receiving a report regarding the attack early today, said the statement. After reviewing surveillance footage in the area, the police determined that two individuals on a motorcycle carried out the attack. An investigation into the incident is underway.
This latest attack comes after a series of similar incidents targeting opposition parties in the lead-up to the parliamentary and presidential elections held on May 14.
The CHP's İstanbul Provincial Headquarters in Kağıthane was targeted on April 6, as shots were fired from the TEM highway in the early hours of the morning. Those initially detained in connection with the attack were later released.
Furthermore, on April 19, an election campaigning office of the CHP in Ataşehir was targeted in an armed assault around. The assailants left markings of "AKP" and "RTE" on the office windows. (AS/VK)
