According to the results announced, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been the winner in the second round of the elections held to determine the 13th President of Turkey. Despite the differences in the data reported by the Supreme Election Council (YSK) the Anadolu Agency (AA) and ANKA News Agency in the first hours, the figures leveled later on during the evening.
Erdoğan who got 51,91 percent of the votes, received 26.689.664 votes, increasing the number of votes he received in the first round by 600 thousand. Kılıçdaroğlu received 24.724.940 votes securing a vote rate of 48.09 percent. Kılıçdaroğlu increased the number of votes he received on May 14 by 1 million.
Both candidates aimed to draw the votes cast for Sinan Oğan in the first round, and bring the voters who were absent in the first round to the polls.
The unofficial results of the election show that neither of the leaders were able to achieve this. The turnout was lower in the second round of the presidential election compared to the first round. The participation level was 87.04 percent on May 14, while it has been 85,71 percent on May 28 (according to the data from Anadolu Agency as of 23.00 pm). While voters who were absent in the first round went to the polls in metropoles such as İstanbul and İzmir, the turnout in Ankara was below that in the first round.
Hatay was the only province where the winner of the race changed from first to the second round.
When the rates that the leaders received in the first round are compared with those received in the second round, it is observed that Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has increased his voting rate in all provinces.
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's voting rate, on the other hand, has decreased in the Kurdish majority provinces. This reflects that the Kurdish voters preferred not to go to the polls.
However, it is also seen that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has increased his voting rate in the west of the country compared to that in the first round.
The partnership entered in the last period with Ümit Özdağ and the policies brought forward led to a fall in the votes cast by Kurdish voters. The inclusion of the article on "replacing mayors with trustees" in the protocol made with Özdağ caused the Kurdish voters to distance themselves from Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
