Good (İYİ) Party leader Meral Akşener was in Barkırköy, İstanbul yesterday (May 21) where she addressed her supporters for the second round of the presidential elections to be held on May 28.
Akşener addressed people at the election coordination center of her party in Bakırköy and called for support for Kılıçdaroğlu in the second round.
Akşener argued that it is necessary for the people to elect the presidential candidate of the opposition after the ruling alliance has won the majority in the parliament.
She said, "If such a great power takes both the parliament majority and the presidency, this will cause this freak system to continue forever."
Akşener stated that it is possible to have Kılıçdaroğlu elected the president.
The Good Party leader told Good Party supporters, "It is my instruction to those who belong to the Good Party, and my appeal to the supporters of the other parties. Say you are a worker, you will talk to your boss, you will talk to your friend. Do you have relatives in Denizli, you will talk to them. Do you have a friend in Kocaeli, you will talk to them. You will convince them, you will ask them. You will not go along with the polarization."
"With God's will, with your efforts, with the efforts of all of us, Kılıçdaroğlu will be elected our 13th President. If we elect Klçdarolu as president, the executive and the parliament will lie in the hands of different forces. A check and balance system will function; the law will function.
Transition to parliamentary system will be possible
So we can realize the transition to the parliamentary system together, and first of all with those in AKP. If such a great power takes both the parliament majority and the presidency, this will cause this freak system to continue forever.
If you are poor, you will become poorer. If you are a rich of the AKP, you will become richer. While your child is unemployed, the child of the other will become rich. While you live an unhappy life, while your child is unhappy a few rich will become even richer. In order to prevent all these, we will elect dear Kılıçdaroğlu the 13th President together," Akşener told her supporters.
May 14 results
In the dual elections held on May 14 the parliamentary elections resulted in the ruling People's Alliance winning 322 seats, the majority of the 600 MP parliament. While the Nation Alliance won 213 seats, and the Labor and Freedom Alliance won 65 seats in the parliament on May 14, the voting results were not conclusive for the presidency.
A second round of the presidential elections will be held on May 28 since none of the candidates received the absolute majority required. In the first round of the presidential elections, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received 49,51%, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu 44,88%, Sinan Oğan 5,17%, and Muharrem İnce who withdrew from candidacy on the last week 0,44% of the votes cast for the presidency.
