A former mayor from the now-shuttered Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), Temer Temel, was shot dead in front of his home in Setkar village, located in the Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak, Turkey.
The 50-year-old man was attacked on Wednesday evening as he got out of his vehicle. According to reports from the Mezopotamya Agency (MA), he was shot and killed at the scene.
Temel had no known enemies, and he was the uncle of the co-mayor of the HDP party in Beytüşşebap, Ferhat Temel. He was known to be affiliated with the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), the successor of the BDP. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
The attack comes just days ahead of Turkey's May 14 elections. Although the motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, the incident has sparked concerns over the safety of political candidates and their supporters. The HDP has been the target of violence and intimidation in the past. (RT/VK)
