Adıyaman Governor Mahmut Çuhadar announced his resignation today (March 10).
Adıyaman was one of the cities that suffered damages in the February 6 Maraş earthquakes. Adıyaman governor Mahmut Çuhadar and the Minister of Transportation Adil Karaismailoğlu were protested by the people in Adıyaman when they went there and they have to get in their cars and leave the region. Videos were circulated showing people kicking their cars.
There were reactions to the governor, saying that he had laughed when an earthquake victim asked "where are the aids sent?"
Çuhadar wrote today (March 10) on the social media accounts of the governorship that, "he had requested to be excused from his duty as the Adıyaman Governor that he has been serving for three years now, due to health problems."
He also wrote,"We totally believe that the wounds caused by the earthquake disaster of February 6, 2023, will be dressed through the cooperation of the state and the nation. Adıyaman and its people will always have a special place in my heart. God bless us all."
