On January 25, Wednesday, the Constitutional Court of Türkiye (AYM) will be discussing the request by the People's Democratic Party (HDP) that the HDP closure case should be postponed until the 2023 elections are over.
HDP made a request on January 16 that all procedures related to the HDP closure case be postponed until after the 2023 elections.
HDP Co-Chairperson Mithat Sancar had said, in relation to their request, "AYM should stop all procedures related to this case. The elections will normally take place on June 18, 2023. If no other decision is taken, the official election process will start on April 19, 2023.
"A tool to blackmail HDP"
"However, according to various leaking information or statements from government circles, May 14 is being evaluated as the election date.
"If the elections are to be taken to May 14, the election process will officially start on March 12, 2023. There is huge uncertainty. This uncertainty is targeting much more than just a plan to trap HDP. The government intends to use this case as a tool to blackmail HDP," Sancar had said. (EMK/PE)
