Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Group Deputy Chair Meral Danış Beştaş spoke at the Parliamentary General Assembly yesterday (April 6).
HDP Siirt MP Danış-Beştaş also wore the clothes that had been originally sent to Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-Chair Leyla Güven, but were not let in the prison by the prison administration.
Marking the April 6 Day of the Killed Journalists as well, Danış Beştaş said, "I remember all massacred journalists with love, respect and gratitude. I respectfully bow down before their memory".
'Corruption detected by Court of Accounts, too'
Addressing the main issues on Turkey's agenda, HDP's Danış Beştaş underlined that "while Turkey has been going through a major economic crisis and 30 million people currently live under the poverty line, financial losses keep on increasing in the public sector".
Referring to the Court of Accounts' audits and inspections at public institutions, Danış Beştaş recalled that the Court detected public loss to be taken to court in 575 files. The Court also ruled that 410,706,087 TRY, 2,177,745 USD and 16,918,141 Euro should be compensated.
Noting that the Court of Accounts notified the relevant authorities so that the necessary could be done with regards to 11 issues, the MP underlined that "the President of the Court of Accounts, in the budget talks two years ago, said that the corruption of trustees was detected".
According to Danış-Beştaş, "as the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) appoints its own pro-government people to every level of the bureaucracy, these losses are not investigated, but covered up".
The MP also criticized the officials receiving multiple salaries from different institutions, recalling that the vice minister of Minister of Treasury and Finance Nureddin Nebati "also receives double salaries".
Ill prisoners and Leyla Güven
HDP's Meral Danış Beştaş also referred to the situation of ill prisoners in Turkey's prisons. Talking about ill prisoner Özge Özbek, she said:
"She has a brain tumor, the execution of her sentence was deferred before. But as this deferment expired, she was jailed again despite her ongoing illness. She was put in jail though she had an open brain surgery. She is still treated for the brain tumor and she will have another surgery soon. The execution of her sentence should be deferred. It could cost her the right to life. She must be released immediately".
Wearing the clothes not let in Elazığ Prison to be worn by jailed Kurdish politician Leyla Güven, Danış Beştaş also talked about this issue and said, "Prison administration said, 'We cannot let the dress in in these colors'. Can a color be banned in a country? No, it cannot".
The dress in question was in green, yellow and red, the combination of which is associated with Kurdish nationalism in Turkey.
