İstanbul Municipal Council member Kaba resigns from AKP: ‘Drifting away from justice…’

Amine Cansu Kaba has announced her resignation from the ruling party on social media. Kaba was also working in the executive of the AKP Üsküdar Women’s Branch and serving as the Üsküdar District Vice Chair for the AKP.

İstanbul Metropolitan Municipal Council member Amine Cansu Kaba has announced that she has resigned from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) by citing "the AKP's drifting away from justice and meritocracy" as the reasons behind her resignation from the party.

Apart from being a member of the opposition-led İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Municipal Council from the AKP, she was also working in the executive of the AKP Üsküdar District Women's Branch and serving as the AKP Üsküdar District Vice Chair. İstanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu appointed Kaba as the clerk of the municipal council board.

In a message on her social media account, Kaba has announced her decision by citing the following reasons:

"The reasons for my parting from my party that I entered with big ideals for my country and nation at 19 are the mistakes which hurt consciences and to which we say, 'This cannot be real', ranging from drifting away from justice and defamation of people over time to a lack of meritocracy of the ones with a position and title and the destruction of hope, especially among the youth".

In her following tweet, Kaba has written:

"MERITOCRACY: Being worthy, suiting, merit, suitability.

"JUSTICE: Compliance with right and law; observing and fulfilling rights and law; truthfulness. Being fair".
