With the decision of President and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Bekir Pakdemirli's request for "being excused from duty" has been accepted. Vahit Kirişci has been appointed as the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry in his place.
According to the decision published in the Official Gazette, the appointment has been made as per Articles 104 and 106 of the Constitution.
About Vahit Kirişci
22nd and 23rd term Adana MP, faculty member.
Born in Maraş on December 4, 1960, Vahit Kirişci graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture of Çukurova University in Adana. He did his MA at the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences of the same university and did his PhD at the Cranfield University in the UK.
He worked as technical personnel at the-the Ministry of Agriculture and Village Affairs. He gave classes as a faculty member at the Faculty of Agriculture of Çukurova University in Adana province.
He became an Associate Professor in 1995 and a Professor in 2001. He was elected the Adana MP from the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the 22nd term. In the same term, he was also a member of the Turkey-European Union Joint Parliamentary Commission and served as the Deputy Chair. He also served as the Chair of the Parliamentary Commission on Forestry and Village Affairs and was elected to the same position in the 23rd term. (TP/SD)
