Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Mithat Sancar talked about the closure case filed against the HDP at his weekly Parliamentary group meeting at the Parliament yesterday (November 9).
Recalling that the HDP submitted its preliminary defense to the Constitutional Court, Sancar said, "In our defense, we have stressed that this case is filed with political motives. This is actually crystal clear.."
Noting that "they all witnessed what happened", Sancar reminded the public that the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), the ally of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), "ran a campaign and the government, by staying silent, at least opened the way for this." Sancar underlined that "this case, filed upon an intensive campaign, is obviously of political character."
'It aims to intimidate democracy forces'
Referring further to the preliminary defense of the HDP, Co-Chair Mithat Sancar stated, "We have underlined that this court case is not only an operation targeting the HDP; on the very contrary, it is a coup aimed at intimidating the democracy forces in Turkey."
"For this reason, we did not prepare our preliminary defense based solely on defending the HDP," stressed Mithat Sancar, briefly adding: "As a matter of fact, the HDP does not have to defend itself. With what it does, its ideas and public relations, its entire reality is in sight. It is a great power and a great reality that can be seen and should be seen by everyone."
According to Sancar, rather than a defense, the document submitted to the Constitutional Court was "a declaration for defending future, democratic future, peace and justice in Turkey and a continuation of the HDP's roadmap showing how this should be built."
'Top court can spoil this dangerous game'
Referring to the Constitutional Court, Sancar said that the top court "has the opportunity to spoil this dark and dangerous game," adding that "it has both the legal grounds and conscientious reasons to do this."
"For this reason, we want the Constitutional Court to dismiss this case immediately today without moving on to an examination as to the merits or carrying out the next procedures," underlined Mithat Sancar.
He stated, "This is our main request in this text which is called a preliminary defense. The Constitutional Court should immediately dismiss this case now. I expect the esteemed members of the Constitutional Court to give such a decision with a fair approach."
Addressing the top court further, Sancar noted, "I also believe that they will display an honorable and conscientious stance in the face of all types of pressure and threats. In this way, the dark picture attempted to be hung on Turkey's faith in a democratic future can be spoiled."
Concluding his remarks, Mithat Sancar reiterated, "The Constitution Court has the means to spoil this dangerous game today." (AS/SD)
