Turkey is approaching a more chaotic period as a "new world order" is being established, according to Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chair Devlet Bahçeli.
"As the tension between the power blocs in the world is intensifying, the political economy design and the political design of a multipolar world is taking place against our country," he told his party's parliamentary group today (June 29).
"The colonial apparatus, the instrument of oppression of this new world, is first and foremost the proposition of democracy that is detached from its original meaning," he remarked.
Bahçeli made reference to the UK's "Global Britain in a Competitive Age" policy paper published in March, which he said marked a shift in the UK's policies on the international system.
"Until yesterday, the United Kingdom policy had cared about preserving the international system based on rules. Today, it emphasized that protecting the status quo is not enough, considering the fractured state of the international order and the intense competition between states over norms and values," Bahçeli remarked.
He asserted that the UK report indicates that "a new world is being established" and it should be evaluated together with the NATO communiqué issued on June 24.
"EU ignored Turkey"
Bahçeli criticized the EU for "ignoring" Turkey in the leaders' summit last week, saying that the decisions adopted about Turkey were far from meeting the expectations.
The EU agreed to provide 3 billion Euro for Turkey to keep refugees from heading to Europe.
"In the summit statement, there is no reference to Turkey's goal of full membership," he said, adding that the relations between Ankara and Brussels are apparently in a "deadlock." (AS/VK)
