Three lawmakers who announced their resignation from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) will reportedly join a new party to be founded by Muharrem İnce, the party's presidential candidate in the 2018 election.
İnce told the pro-government DHA agency that he will also resign from the party in a short time and found his party in the spring months.
He also said that he spoke with the three CHP deputies before and after their resignation. When asked whether they would join him in the new party, he replied, "Yes."
MPs Mehmet Ali Çelebi (İzmir), Özcan Özel (Yalova) and Hüseyin Avni Aksoy (Karabük) resigned from the CHP on Friday (January 29), citing lack of democracy within the party.
In August 2020, İnce announced his new movement that he called the "Homeland in a Thousand Days Movement" but did not make it clear at the time whether it would turn into a new party.
