Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Kocaeli MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu has responded to Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu, who referred to him as "an MP infiltrated into the Parliament by the FETÖ" for raising concerns over the allegations of torture in custody at Ankara Security Directorate.
Gergerlioğlu has shared the following message on Twitter:
"He called me a FETÖ* member... Soylu, I have always been a human rights defender and you have been a person for all seasons, you will change tomorrow, too..! I am against torture regardless of the identity.
"You slanders cannot cover up torture. A person turning a blind eye to the report of a bar association naturally resorts to labelling and slanders."
Soylu said 'they were lies and smears'
Soylu previously made the following remarks on the allegations of torture:
"These allegations recently voiced by an MP infiltrated into the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) by the FETÖ [held responsible for the coup attempt in 2016] are inconsistent, unfounded, lies and smears."
