The Ministry of Interior has discharged 10 mukhtars from posts in Lice district in the mostly Kurdish-populated province of Diyarbakır.
A mukhtar is the elected head of a village or a neighborhood. People of Turkey elected more than 50 thousand mukhtars in the March 31 local elections.
Six of the mukhtars in Lice were also discharged last year by the Ministry of Interior on the ground of the continuing investigations and prosecutions against them.
The Ministry of Interior discharged a total of 258 mukhtars in October 2018.
The Ministry also discharged 94 mayors from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in the region between September 2016 and August 2018.
The names of the discharged mukhtars according to the Mezopotamya Agency: Baharlar Neighborhood Mukhtar Bahri Narin, Şenlik Neighborhood Mukhtar Fikri Ertaş, Karahasan Neighborhood Mukhtar Hanifi Gülen, Kali Neighborhood Mukhtar Çetin Dirin, Bayırlı Neighborhood Mukhtar Aziz Doğan, Ulucak Neighborhood Mukhtar Mahfuz Mayda, Yünlüce Neighborhood Mukhtar Mekin Yalçın, Yalaza Neighborhood Mukhtar Abdulcebbar Çelik, Serince Neighborhood Mukhtar Sevat Polat ve Uçarlı Neighborhood Mukhtar Vayez Altıntop.
