After the 2019 Local Elections were held on March 31, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has been raising objections in the districts and provinces where it has lost the elections while the appeals made by opposition parties are frequently rejected.
In response to these developments, an online petition campaign has been launched. Accordingly, the petition has stated the following:
"The Supreme Election Council (YSK) has to be an institution that treats everyone equally and fairly, whose decisions do not contradict with each other and that has no double standards in practice.
"We want to hope that all members act with a sense of justice in making these decisions which will go down in history.
"Please, let's respect the elected people and their voters; let's enable them to take office as soon as possible. Justice is the foundation of the state. Justice is the most dependable base of a country, let's not forget that."
Launched on change.org website, the petition was signed by 55 thousand 322 people as of 11 a.m. on April 9. (HK/SD)
