According to the unofficial results of the 2019 General Local Elections, Vefa Salman, the candidate of the Nation Alliance from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), won the elections. The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) objected to the results on April 2.
Upon the objection of the AKP, the votes have been counted again for 25 hours and Yalova District Election Council has announced that CHP candidate Vefa Salman has become the mayor by a margin of 332 votes.
After the unofficial local election results were announced in Yalova, AKP Yalova Provincial Chair Muğlim Bağatar stated, "The Justice and Development Party has suffered a serious loss in its votes due to a number of faults. We will appeal to the Electoral Judgeship." The objection raised by the AKP Yalova Provincial Organization was accepted.
In the local elections held on March 31, the candidate of the Nation Alliance Vefa Yalman from the CHP won the elections by receiving 28 thousand 796 votes. Yusuf Ziya Öztabak, the candidate of the People's Alliance from the AKP, has received 28 thousand 183 votes.
Local elections repeated in Yalova in 2014
Vefa Salman was elected the Mayor of Yalova upon the objection of the CHP in the local elections in 2014.
In the previous local elections on March 30, 2014, it was announced that the AKP won the elections by a margin of 1 vote. The result was objected by both the AKP and the CHP. The Provincial Election Council of Yalova counted the votes in 124 ballot boxes and announced that CHP candidate Vefa Salman won the elections by a margin of 6 votes.
The AKP objected to this result and the Supreme Election Council (YSK) ruled that the local elections should be held again in Yalova.
In the elections repeated on June 1, Vefa Salman won the elections by receiving 200 more votes than his AKP rival.
In addition to Yalova, local elections were also held again in Turkey's eastern province of Ağrı in 2014. The elections were repeated in 12 districts and towns on June 1, 2014. (HK/SD)
