After the General Local Elections were held on March 31, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has objected to the election results in Turkey's eastern province of Muş. The Governorship of Muş has announced that all meetings, demonstrations and statements for the press to be held in the province have been banned for a period of 15 days.
In a statement released by the Governorship, it has been stated,
"We have received intelligence that provocative acts will be committed by organizations and people supporting terrorism on various pretexts; assemblies, demonstrations and press statements will be held for this purpose and there is protest preparation within this frame."
Referring to the duties and authorities of the governors, the statement has underlined, "In the event that there is a clear and close threat suggesting that an offense will be committed in a province, governors can ban all assemblies in one or some districts for less than a month."
"Within this perspective, considering that there is preparation for provocative acts and there could arise problems concerning public order in Muş, all acts such as assemblies, marches, demonstrations and statements for the press have been banned for 15 days as of April 1, 2019."
Sakık: We objected to election results
Sırrı Sakık, the mayor candidate of HDP for Muş, previously stated that they detected errors in 103 ballot boxes in their examination. Adding that 2 thousand 500 votes were declared invalid, Sakık also announced that they objected to the results at the Provincial Election Council.
Margin of 611 votes between candidates
According to the unofficial results of the local elections, while Feyat Asya, the candidate of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), has received 34.83 percent (15 thousand 914) of the votes,
Sırrı Sakık has received 33.49 percent (15 thousand 303) and independent candidate Şerefettin Yatçı has received 26.75 percent. (HA/SD)
