Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has released a statement regarding the transfer of equipment and flights from the İstanbul Atatürk Airport to the 3rd airport, whose name was previously announced as İstanbul Airport.
The Ministry has not given any specific information regarding the exact date when the transfer of equipments and flights will be completed.
"As of January 1, 2019, the transfer process will be accelerated and the flights and ground services will be gradually transferred from Atatürk Airport to İstanbul Airport without compromising comfort of passengers," the statement has said.

According to the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ), the removal to the 3rd airport, which was opened on October 29, 2018, was planned to take place by the end of December.
However, at a meeting that was attended by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Cahit Turan, it was decided to postpone the transfer.
In the statement, the Ministry also said that Atatürk Airport is used by 70 million passengers a year, hence such a transfer will take a long time.
The ministry has not mentioned the floods in the 3rd airport which took place on December 19 in its statement. (OI/HK/VK)
