Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın addressed the "T A M A M" (Enough) campaign on social media during his press conference in Presidency in Beştepe, Ankara today (May 9).
Speaking about the 2 million "Enough" tweets posted in one day, Presidential Spokesperson Kalın stated that "bot accounts" are the actual reason behind the high number of tweets posted in support of the campaign. Kalın said,
"Social media is an effective means of communication. It is impossible to remain disinterested to it. Making such efforts in social media are in vain. We have experienced such things before. The one who will make the actual decision here is our nation, who will go to the ballot box. These attacks launched through bot accounts on social media will not yield any results. Let us deal with the real, not with the virtual. We believe that our nation will say 'Carry on' to us. What really matters is the decision that our nation will make."
"Carry on" did not become a trending topic
The supporters of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) attempted to make the hashtag "Carry on" (Devam) a trending topic and recommended that tweets including the words "Carry on" be constantly posted. Bot accounts also posted tweets with the words "Carry on." However, the hashtag fell off the trending topics list of Twitter after a short time. (AS/SD)
