A knife attack was carried out against İYİ Party's election booth in the district of Bağcılar in İstanbul yesterday evening (May 6). Eight people were injured in the attack.
While four people got wounded through battery, the other four people were injured with knife. The injured people were taken to the hospital. One person who got wounded in the knife attack has been in critical condition and referred to İstanbul University Çapa Medical Faculty.
In the İYİ Party election booth in Bağcılar, signatures were being collected for the Presidential nomination of İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener.
The assaulters have not been caught yet
The state-run Anadolu Agency has reported the incident as a quarrel between the members of the İYİ Party and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
As for Yeniçağ newspaper, it has written that the attack was carried out by a group of around 100 people who gathered in front of the MHP election booth located right across the booth of İYİ Party.
While the police have started to work to catch the assaulters, İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener posted a tweet on her official Twitter account about the attack, which was also condemned by the main opposition party Republican People's Party (CHP) and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP). Akşener said, "No attack or threat can turn us away from the road of goodness which we have set out", adding that they've initiated the judicial process. (AS/SD)
