Republican People's Party (CHP) vice-Chair Bülent Tezcan has been elected the party's new spokesperson.
Being elected the party's spokesperson on January 24, 2016, Selin Sayek Böke had announced on May 6 that she had resigned from all her posts in the party as the spokesperson and the Deputy General Chair in Charge of Economy.
Böke announcing her resignation had said: "I don't find it appropriate to be a part of this management understanding at this stage. At least 50% of Turkey stood against strongman regime on April 16 but this will was seized through unlawful means. What falls to the CHP is to not legitimize this illegitimacy and give a political struggle with the people to turn their will of democracy to the reality of Turkey.
"Acknowledging the illegitimate results of the referendum is unfair to the millions who manifested their will for democracy".
