President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has become a Justice and Development Party (AKP) member after three years.
A large portion of the 18-article constitutional amendment referendum package will be put into effect after the general and presidential elections will be held simultaneously on November 3, 2019.
Yet three articles of the package can enter into force instantly. These articles concern membership of the President to a political party, the reorganization of the Supreme Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) as well as abolishing military justice system.
Signing the membership declaration, Erdoğan became a member of the AKP.
In a speech delivered at the AKP General Headquarters, Erdoğan said that “Today I am returning to my love, my passion, my home, my party from which I founded and had to decouple as required by the Constitution since I was elected president by our nation on August 27, 2014”. (NV/TK)
