Barbaros Şansal, a renowned fashion designer, was detained at İstanbul Airport today (February 2) after his arrival from Northern Cyprus.
Due to a warrant issued by the İstanbul 20th Penal Cout of First Instance, the police detained Şansal. The warrant was issued as part of a case against him for "degrading the military and police organization of the state."
It was found that the court had issued the order despite his lawyer's notification to the court that Şansal could not give a statement because he was abroad.
A politically outspoken figure, Şansal has had several court cases against him over the years. In 2017, he was attacked at İstanbul Atatürk Airport by a mob who called him a "traitor." (AÖ/VK)
