Most of the time, demanding peace feels like a given right. As if it were usual to ask why having clashes instead of living in peace...
Yet the fight for peace is one of the most compelling battle fields and becomes even tougher in times of clashes.
Since the day it has started broadcasting, bianet has taken the right to use one’s mother tongue and the right to education in one’s mother tongue as priority areas. On every February 21, it has reported the statements and the actions made on this day and has been devising special projects for February 21 since 2012.
On February 21, 2012 for instance bianet readers have had the chance to read articles penned in 16 different languages, where the authors have articulated their relationships to their mother tongues in their own mother tongues.
In 2013, we have narrated mother tongues with the language of music, because native languages could only continue their existence by being reflected in songs and ballads.
In 2014, we have compiled fairy tales penned in mother tongues wishing them not to sink into oblivion.
2015 had been a happy year in which we have compiled jokes in mother tongue.
In 2016 we made a 40-second video and called out “peace!” in Adyghe, Abkhazian, Arabic, Armenian, Georgian, Homshetsi, Judaeo Spanish, Kurdish, Lazuri, Ossetic, Romanian, Romaic, Assyrian and Turkish. Because we know that peace is beautiful in every language and much more beautiful when said in every language.
