Alpaslan Arslan, who was the perpetrator in the raid and armed attack at the Court of Cassation in 2006 died in the Kartal hospital where he was taken. It was announced that Arslan committed suicide in Maltepe prison.
It was reported that Arslan who was taken to the Kartal hospital but died was for some time now not even taking care of himself.
The then-lawyer Alparslan Arslan carried out an armed attack on the second department of the Court of Cassation on May 17, 2006. Judge Mustafa Yücel Özbilgin was killed while four other judges of the Court of Cassation were injured in the attack.
The court ruled for aggravated life imprisonment for Arslan for killing Özbilgin and 72 years of imprisonment for injuring the four other judges of the supreme court.
Arslan was serving his sentence which was upheld by the Court of Cassation. (EMK/PE)
