An explosion hit the Fener Street in İskenderun district of Turkey's southern province of Hatay yesterday evening (October 26).
Ambulances and police squads were dispatched to the district shortly after the explosion had shaken the town center. Hit by the blast, Fener Street was closed to traffic after the incident.
Hatay Governor Rahmi Doğan has said on Twitter that there have been no casualties in the incident. He has said that "the explosion took place shortly after security forces neutralized one of the two suspected terrorists, whom they had pursued." The operation is ongoing, Doğan has added.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), late on Monday, Turkey's Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu also made a statement and said that "the two terrorists involved in the explosion were neutralized."
Following Minister Soylu's announcement, Governor Doğan held a press conference, detailing the operations against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the region. "As of today, the PKK terrorist organization has been destroyed in the Amanos region and there are no [members] of the PKK terrorist organization left," he has reportedly said. (EKN/SD)
