Security General Directorate has announced that 9,103 law enforcement staff members have been suspended due to having a connection to the "Fethullahist Terror Organization/Parallel State Organization" (FETÖ/PDY).
According to a statement released on the official website of the directorate, the police officers have been taken into custody who could possibly have a connection with the organization which constituted a threat to the national security as mentioned in Article 2 of the Statutory Decree No. 667 issued under the State of Emergency.
273,846 personnel in total
Following the coup attempt on July 15, 12,801 police officers 2, 523 of whom were chief officers had been taken into custody by the Security General Directorate.
According to the performance information of the directorate, 273,846 serve under the directorate.
Operations in 81 provinces
According to the report of Doğan News Agency (DHA), operations were carried out in 81 provinces as a part of the investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the "secret organization of FETÖ in the security department".
In simultaneous operations carried out by the security department with a staff of 8,500 police officers, 1,120 people have been taken into custody.
Apartments, workplaces and cars of the suspects have been searched. DHA has reported that fake ids and driver's licences as well as digital equipments, documents, gold, money and some foreign currency were found in the searches. (AS/DG)
