The Twitter account of the Xwebûn newspaper that was blocked was restored by Twitter after the objection the newspaper made.
Twitter blocked the account @rojnamexwebun on March 22 claiming "Twitter rules were violated."
Twitter then responded to the objection made saying, "After the detailed examination made, it was understood that you have not violated the Twitter rules and we have restored your account. Your account is now open. We thank you for your patience and apologize for the inconvenience."
Xwebûn and Kurdish press in Turkey
Xwebûn is the only newspaper in Kurdish that is both an internet outlet and also published in papers in Turkey.
Xwebûn newspaper started to be published in 2019. It is published in two dialects of Kurdish and aims to inform the people on every issue in Kurdish.
The Azadiya Welat (Freedom of the Country) newspaper published in two dialects of Kurdish founded in 1992 was published weekly until 2006, and then daily between 2006 and 2016. It was first temporarily closed in 2016 due to making "terrorist propaganda," and then closed permanently with a decree.
Xwebûn newspaper was founded in 2019 to continue the tradition of Kurdish newspapers in Turkey. Xwebûn means to "generate oneself" in Kurdish. (HA/PE)
