Living in the village of Kovankaya (Mehrî) in southeastern Şırnak province's Beytüşşebap district, Hurmüz and Şimuni Diril were abducted by an unidentified person or persons on January 8, 2020. The deceased body of Şimuni Diril was found on the banks of Hezil Creek 70 days later.
As part of the investigation launched into the disappearance of the couple, three people, including Apro D., who was the only person apart from the couple living in the village, were detained on June 20.
After the detained gave their statements at the security directorate, they were referred to the Şırnak Courthouse yesterday (June 22).
He was detained before
As reported by the Mezopotamya Agency (MA), Şırnak Bar Association Chair Rojhat Dilsiz indicated that Apro D. and the other two suspects were referred to the court to be arrested after giving their statements at the prosecutor's office. While the court has ruled that the other two people shall be released on probation, Apro D. has been arrested.
Apro D., the only person apart from the couple living in the village, was previously detained as part of the same investigation; he was released later after he had given his statement at the security directorate.

What happened?
72-year-old Hurmüz Diril and his 65-year-old spouse Şimuni Diril, living in the Syriac village of Mehre (Kovankaya) in Beytüşşebap district of southeastern Şırnak province, got missing on January 11, 2020.
Of the Chaldean couple, the deceased body of Şimuni Diril was found by her children some 800 meters away from the village on March 20, 2020, 70 days after they had gone missing. The fate and whereabouts of Hurmüz Diril are still unknown. (EMK/SD)
