Ministry of National Defense has announced that two soldiers have lost their lives and two soldiers have been wounded in an aerial attack in Idlib.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), "Turkey retaliated for the attack with full force and 114 regime targets were heavily struck and destroyed", the ministry has said in a series of tweets.
According to various sources in the region, three tanks were seized and an air defense missile system and one Zu-23 anti-aircraft gun as well as other vehicles were destroyed, the ministry has added.
Statement by Minister Akar
Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar has also expressed his condolences in a message shared on the Twitter account of the Ministry.
"We have buried you not in the ground, but in our hearts. The homeland is grateful to you", Minister Akar has said and announced that Engineer Specialist Corporal Şükrü Elibol and Infantry Specialized Sergeant Soner Enes Baykuş have lost their lives in the attack.
17 soldiers lost their lives in Idlb
On February 3, 2020, eight personnel of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), including one civilian, lost their lives in Idlib.
A week later, on February 19, five soldiers were killed in an artillery fire opened by the Syrian army.
When the Ministry of National Defense released a statement on February 20 and announced that two soldiers lost their lives in an aerial attack, the number of Turkey's soldiers who died in Idlib increased to 15. With this recent announcement. 17 soldiers in total have lost their lives in the province since the beginning of this year. (TP/SD)
