The Group Deputy Chairperson of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) Bülent Turan has stated that the regulation on paid military service has been ready to be presented to the Speakership of the Parliament.
Turan has also added that the regulation will then be discussed at the Committee on Planning and Budget and presented to the General Assembly of the Parliament next week.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency, Turan has announced that the age limit for the paid military service will be 25 and its price will be 15 thousand Turkish Lira (TRY).
The regulation also foresees that the ones who want to do a paid military service shall fulfil a 25-day compulsory military service as well.
The duration of compulsory military service for the ones who cannot/ do not benefit from the paid military service is 6 months for the university graduates and 12 months for others.
It will cover 93 percent
Cumhuriyet newspaper has reported that the age limit of 25 years will cover 93 percent of the ones who have been waiting for the paid military service.
It is expected that at least 400 thousand of the ones waiting for the related regulation will apply for the paid military service.
In a statement that he made last week, Bülent Turan stated that 5 million young men have been waiting for the paid military service.
Since 1987, when the paid military service was introduced for the first time in Turkey, approximately 400 thousand people have done paid military service. (EKN/SD)
