Germany's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that since the coup attempt on July 15, 2016, 260 Turkish citizens holding a diplomatic passport and 508 higher-ranking public officials have applied for asylum to Germany..
According to the report of Deutsche Welle, the Ministry has announced the figures following a parliamentary inquiry submitted by the oppositional Left Party.
The Ministry has stated that they used data available as of November 20 and that the spouses and children were also included in the figures.
401 applications granted
According to the data announced by the Ministry, 401 of the 768 applications were granted and 367 applications are still being processed.
Thousand asylum seekers from Turkey per month
It was stated, that Germany received 1,059 asylum applications from Turkey in October, 1,016 applications in September and 962 applications in August 2017.
Following Syria and Iraq, Turkey is the third country where most applications come from.
