İzmir Solidarity Academy, an alternative scholars' assembly formed by academics discharged from universities by statutory decrees has created a programme, "Migration School". The programme, which will provide trainings for 20 undergraduate and graduate students will start on April 10.
The lessons will be on Monday and Thursday evenings, will finish on June 5 and will cover topics such as migration and human rights, legal scope of migration, citizenship, solidarity policies, integration and discrimination, right to education, access to services, migration and politics, migration and environment, women's labor, workers' health, gender, health and cinema with regards to migration.
Feride Aksu, Nermin Biter, Zeynep Özen Barkot, Ömer Çelebi, Aslı Davas, Cansu Akbaş Demirel, Melek Göregenli, Lülüfer Körükmez, Hanifi Kurt, Zerrin Kurtoğlu, Serdar Tekin, Nilgün Toker, Zeynep Varol, Melda Yaman are on the organization committee and among the educators.
The solidarity academy stated that the first subject to be covered in the school would be "Migration and Human Rights" in order to strengthen the peace demand and make a contribution to the life of migrants in İzmir, which is a frequent destination for many refugees in Turkey. (CK/YY/DG)
