After the Ankara 3rd Penal Court of Peace has imposed an access block on 136 Internet addresses including bianet, an online petition has been launched on change.org in support of the website and press freedom.

Entitled "Don't Shut Down bianet, Freedom of Information Cannot be Restricted," the petition has indicated the following:
"We are still shocked by the access block on bianet, the alternative face of Turkey's bright future and impartial, free and honest journalism.
"Our right to receive true and accurate news cannot be prevented; we demand freedom for bianet, which has been prevented from publishing news, and all other digital news channels that have been blacked out.
"We request that this unlawful order of the 3rd Penal Court of Peace be rescinded as soon as possible! #bianeteözgürlük (Freedom to bianet) #özgürmedyasususturulamaz (Free media cannot be silenced)"
In an order dated July 16, the Ankara 3rd Penal Court of Peace has ruled that an access block shall be imposed on 136 Internet addresses.
Among those addresses are also Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube and Pinterest accounts as well as news websites. One of these websites is bianet.org. (AÖ/SD)
