The Journalists Outside initiative has held a march in Kadıköy, İstanbul to make a call for trial of now-closed Özgür Gündem and fourth hearing of Cumhuriyet trial in which managers, columnists, reporters and lawyers have been prosecuted.
Slogans “Justice, right now” and “Come for justice, come for freedom” were chanted in the marching that started at Mehmet Ayvalıtaş Park.
Gülşah Karadağ read out the statement for the press on behalf of the Journalists Outside in front of the bull statute.
Karadağ said, “Detention of journalists aims to hide truth and prevent the lies from being uncovered. It aims to trample on law and justice. It aims at paving the way for torturers, and to not call the murderers to account”.
Stating that all these are realities of life, Karadağ said Turkey is the country that has the biggest journalists’ prison, and added, “That’s enough, we want to breathe”.
“Everyone has been silenced. No country deserves such a tyranny. We don’t have to endure this enslavement.
“If you think like this too, we can witness the Cumhuriyet and Özgür Gündem trials to be heard on October 31 all together”.
Karadağ concluded her speech saying “Down with oppression, long live independence”. (BC/EKN/TK)
