Evrensel daily's managing editor Çağrı Sarı and it's former grant holder Arif Koşar have been sentenced to 5 months in prison. Their punishment has been deferred.
A lawsuit was brought against Sarı and Koşar for their report "Police rake people in Nusaybin: 3 injured" published on March 13, 2016 under Article 301 of the Constitution on the "crime of insulting the Turkish Nation, the State of the Republic of Turkey, and the institutions and the organs of the state".
According to the report of Cansu Pişkin from Evrensel daily, the board of judges sentenced Sarı and Koşar to 5 months in prison in the hearing held today (June 6) before İstanbul Courthouse 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance. Their sentence has been deferred.
Their attorney Devrim Avcı karara will challenge the decision, according to the report. (TP/NV/DG)
