A ceremony was held in memory of academic Aylin Sözer in İstanbul Aydın University today (December 30).
Aylin Sözer was killed by a man named Kemal D. in her house in the district of Maltepe in İstanbul yesterday.
After her passing was reported in the press, her students also shared a message and said, "This is not a letter, this is a declaration where we cry our rage out loud. So many Aylins are massacred in this country everyday. With which preventive mechanisms will you stop feminicides?"

While the pictures of Aylin Sözer were held by the academics and students in today's ceremony, Prof. Yadigar İzmirli, the President of İstanbul Aydın University, made a speech in her memory. "It has been a difficult year," said İzmirli and briefly stated the following:
"We struggled against all these difficulties together. But, at the end of this year, we have been faced with a tragic loss that has left us all desperate.
"We have lost our teacher who gave us strength with her existence, who added love wherever she touched, who gave education in almost every province in Turkey with her unending energy; we have lost the apple of the eye of the education community and our students, we have lost our teacher who believed that education was a bridge from one heart to the other and implemented it; we have lost her to a brutal murder."
About Aylin Sözer
Academic Aylin Sözer graduated from the Preschool Teaching Department of Marmara University. She did her Master's degree in the same department in 2005. She also completed her PhD studies there.
She was mostly writing about the education of mathematics. Her last book "Mathematics Education in Early Childhood Period" was published by Nobel Akademik Publishing. She was born in 1972.
