After the Kadıköy Municipality, an investigation was launched into the Maltepe Municipality for "bribery."
Both municipalities in İstanbul's Asian side are run by the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP).
Arrest warrants have been issued against 18 suspects, 10 of whom are civil servants, including senior executives of the municipality and municipal police officers.
The Investigation Bureau for Civil Servants' Crimes of the İstanbul Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office found that the 18 suspects were involved in the crimes of "organized bribery" and "forgery of official documents."
The financial police launched a simultaneous operation to apprehend two people who were the deputy mayors of Maltepe when the alleged crime was committed, and a principal clerk.
The raids are underway and most of the suspects have been detained.
Earlier in the week, nearly 200 people, including more than 50 Kadıköy Municipality employees, were detained in several cities in a beriberi investigation. (HA/VK)
