The Cemeteries Department of the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İMM) has announced that 201 people lost their lives due to "infectious diseases" only in İstanbul yesterday (November 23).
According to the Cemeteries Department data shared by the İMM News on social media, 442 people lost their lives in İstanbul yesterday. The causes of death of 201 people were indicated as "infectious disease."
However, according to the official data shared on the website of the Ministry of Health yesterday evening, 153 people died of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) throughout Turkey yesterday, which has marked the highest number of daily fatalities since the pandemic broke out in Turkey.
'Should I stay silent?'
Speaking about the death toll in the city, İstanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said earlier yesterday, "I have to talk. Last evening, the number of people who lost their lives due to the infectious disease was 186 in İstanbul. What should I do now? Should I stay silent, should I swallow it?"
As for the official numbers announced by the Health Ministry on November 22, 139 people died of COVID-19 across Turkey. (EKN/SD)
