Bracing for heavy snowfall for days, İstanbul received heavy snow over the weekend, albeit not as heavy as the case in 1987 winter.
Hit by snowfall since March 9, İstanbul, along with other provinces in Turkey's northwestern Marmara region, was covered with snow, which was captured by photojournalists on both sides of the city.
Snowfall was also effective all across the country, especially in the eastern provinces. As of yesterday afternoon (March 13), the roads leading to 1,044 residential areas were closed due to adverse winter conditions in the provinces of Van, Hakkari, Muş and Bitlis in the east. The eastern province of Erzurum was also severely affected by the heavy snowfall.
