Heavy downpour caused floods yesterday (December 28) in Edirne and Kırklareli provinces in Turkey's northwestern Thrace region.
Several people affected by the floods have been relocated to safe places, the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) announced.
Heavy rainfall is expected to continue in the region today as well, according to weather forecasts.
In Edirne's Uzunköprü district, the Kırkavak Stream flooded after a rainfall of 60 kilograms per square meter in 24 hours. The road to the Kırkavak village was closed due to the floods.
Some businesses and homes in the industrial region were also flooded.
Residents of 48 flats in a housing complex were relocated by AFAD teams.
In Babaeski, Kırklareli, the Çürtlen Stream flooded after heavy rainfall all day. Municipal teams evacuated some people using earthmovers while some others moved to their neighbors' flats in upper floors. (TP/VK)
