An LGBTI+ activist has been acquitted of "resisting the police" in a case concerning the 2021 LGBTI+ Pride Week events, Kaos GL reported.
LGBTI+s had gathered in İstanbul's Maçka Park for a picnic to mark the Pride Week, which police had not allowed and detained many.
A case had been filed against a person who had attended the picnic, who had allegedly spit on a police officer's face. During the trial, the officer in question admitted no such incident had taken place.
Handing down its judgment today, the İstanbul 44th Penal Court of First Instance acquitted the activist.
All 40 people who faced charges in relation to the 2021 Pride Week have now been acquitted.
District governors of İstanbul's Beyoğlu and Şişli had banned all events related to Pride Week. (EMK/VK)
