Gülser Yıldırım, a former MP for the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), is still not released from prison despite completing her sentence three months ago.
The Mardin 3rd Heavy Penal Court sentenced Yıldırım to 7 years and 6 months in prison for "being a member of an illegal organization."
When the court handed down its judgment on February 8, 2019, Yıldırım had been remanded in custody for 2 years and 4 months.
According to the Criminal Enforcement Law, she should remain in prison for 5 years, 7 months and 16 days. However, she has been in prison for 5 years, 10 months and 8 days.
The Court of Cassation has not yet examined Yıldırım's appeal and has not responded to her lawyers' petitions about her prolonged imprisonment, Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reported.
Azad Yıldırım, the attorney of the politician, said, "My client has completed all of her sentence and has been kept in prion unlawfully for three months. There are no arrest warrants against Gülser Yıldırım." (RT/VK)
